Surveying the Aftermath of Hurricane Irene

When it comes to hurricanes, you can't be too prepared.

 Even before Hurricane Irene hit the East Coast on August 27-28, communities and government agencies were assembling resources and planning cleanup and repair.

The storm tore out a portion of NC 12 in Rodanthe, N.C., cutting off the village from the mainland of the Outer Banks. On Bald Head Island, N.C., Irene destroyed portions of the village's first line of defense against future storms.
