Expanded Healthcare Leadership Assists Hospitals with Mechanical & Central Plant Needs
To better support the critical needs of hospitals and healthcare facilities, McKim & Creed has expanded its healthcare leadership. Mitch Brown, PE, has been promoted to technical director for healthcare services. Mitch has 30 years’ experience providing mechanical engineering to hospitals and healthcare facilities throughout the Triangle area. He also serves additional select clients in North Carolina and Florida.
“Mitch is a well-respected engineer and healthcare technical adviser to our clients. With our company focus on healthcare, we felt it was appropriate to expand his role. This allows us to share his experience and technical expertise with healthcare facilities throughout the Southeast. This will be an additional resource to further assist our client partners,” said Matthew Daves, PE, LEED AP, CBCP. Matt oversees McKim & Creed’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection services (MEP/FP).
New Healthcare Leadership Focuses on Mechanical and Central Plant Needs
In his new role as technical adviser, Mitch will manage healthcare projects in the Southeast. He will also provide quality assurance and quality control services, train technical staff and work one-on-one with healthcare professionals to determine solutions to their mechanical engineering needs.
“We at McKim & Creed understand that hospitals must continue to provide essential services in addition to accommodating COVID-19 cases, all while maintaining safe social guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus. We are here to support those critical needs of our healthcare clients,” explained Mitch.
For example, as hospitals explore options of temporary triage, observation and isolation facilities, Mitch suggests a thorough evaluation be performed. This will determine if existing systems have or can be modified to provide adequate filtration, airflow and pressurization requirements necessary to prevent the spread of the virus. If not, exemptions to the licensure requirements may be required.
Mitch’s areas of expertise include the design of HVAC, central energy plants, plumbing, and medical gas systems. His extensive experience in central energy plants also includes boiler plants and chiller plants, controls systems and optimization. He also conducts condition assessments of facilities.
Mitch has managed numerous mechanical engineering projects at UNC Hospitals, Duke Health, and Rex Hospital. He is a graduate of N.C. State University and a member of the North Carolina Healthcare Engineers Association.
“I am in no way leaving the healthcare clients I work with now. I look forward to expanding McKim & Creed’s services to additional healthcare facilities, especially at this time when our hospital clients need us most. We are here to help,” said Mitch.
