The Next Direction in Carolina Living
Weyerhaeuser, one of the world’s largest private owners of timberlands, introduces West New Bern, a mixed-use destination community in New Bern, North Carolina. Located just six miles west of New Bern’s historic downtown district, West New Bern offers opportunities for restaurants, retail, office, light industrial and residences along the quadrant of N.C. Highway 43 and U.S. Highway 70, a major corridor for the local area and for travel between Raleigh and the coast. In Phase I, plans call for up to 1,500 homes, Main Street shopping and dining, plus outparcel retail and commercial space. West New Bern will boast proposed amenities including a 35-acre lake chain, nature trails, fitness center and community meeting house.
“We are proud to partner with McKim & Creed for our newest mixed-use community in North Carolina,” says West New Bern Project Manager Kellie Hawkins. “The McKim & Creed team consisting of Mark Smith, Tara Murphy, Richard Collier, Richard Moore and David Jones, along with Groundwater Management Associates Hydrologists Jay Holley and Richard Spruill, have helped us tremendously with our stormwater concerns. With their partnership, we are finalizing the plans for permit,” Ms. Hawkins adds.
With McKim & Creed’s services fully underway, West New Bern is scheduled to begin horizontal construction for pad-ready sites in second quarter 2018. Ms. Hawkins says, “West New Bern’s tagline is ‘The Next Direction in Carolina Living.’ With McKim & Creed, along with our other valuable partners, that next direction is going to mean great things for Weyerhaeuser and for New Bern, North Carolina.”
