Following the 2010 Daytona 500 and after extensive study by engineers and asphalt specialists, International Speedway Corporation officials decided to repave the world-famous Daytona International Speedway for the first time since 1978. One of the initial steps in the $20-million repaving project was collecting accurate survey data to ensure the track remains true to Bill France, Sr.’s original vision, layout and geometry.
