New SUE Leadership Team Takes Reins in Texas
McKim & Creed, Inc. announces a new SUE leadership team to oversee Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) services in Texas.
Longtime McKim & Creed manager Sean Patterson, CST Level IV, (top left) has been promoted to regional SUE manager in Texas.
Joining Sean is Robert (Bob) Mjoen, PE, MBA, (second from left) who will serve as the new SUE TxDOT project manager and utility coordinator.
Leadership Team Responsibilities
As regional SUE manager, Sean will oversee McKim & Creed’s professional SUE services in Texas and southwestern U.S. In his role as project manager and utility coordinator, Bob will manage a ll TxDOT SUE and utility coordination projects. In addition, he will supervise utility coordination projects involving the relocation and adjustment of utilities. Such relocations are in conjunction with highway design, construction or maintenance projects.
What is SUE?
SUE is an engineering process that verifies the existence, size, material type, condition and exact location of subsurface utilities. Underground utilities are located using several methods: utility records research, non-destructive geophysical prospecting methods, land survey and vacuum excavation. SUE has been credited with reducing project risks. And it can help control project safety, costs, schedule and utility damages. SUE has proven effective in helping prevent accidents associated with underground utility damage on construction sites.
Veterans of the SUE Industry
“Sean has earned a great deal of respect in the SUE industry during his nearly 30-year career. He learned SUE field processes in the early 1990s. And he has built a successful career on that foundation. Quality of work, communication and commitment are his principles.
“Bob is a highly qualified engineer and problem-solver. He has successfully managed large transportation projects for the Colorado Department of Transportation. Together, Sean and Bob have led thousands of SUE, utility coordination and engineering projects. They offer a level of experience and industry knowledge that brings McKim & Creed’s already outstanding utility services to a whole new level,” said Jason Jernigan, RPLS. Jason serves as McKim & Creed’s regional director of geomatics services in Texas.
Track Record of New SUE Leaders
Sean joined McKim & Creed in 2005. For the past decade, he has managed McKim & Creed’s SUE services in the Mid-Atlantic. In May he relocated to Texas to oversee SUE services in the Southwest. “I am very excited to bring my family to the great state of Texas and to strengthen McKim & Creed’s SUE services here,” he said.
Bob joined McKim & Creed in June. For the past 30+ years he has worked throughout Texas and Colorado as a construction project engineer, project manager and traffic engineer. He has built a solid reputation for effectively managing multiple, large-scale construction, design and safety improvement projects. “I have been impressed with the quality of McKim & Creed’s services, technologies and personnel, and am honored to join a leadership team that is poised to elevate those services,” said Bob.
McKim & Creed provides full-service geomatics services from its three Texas offices in Dallas, Houston and Austin.
