Where did you grow up? Mumbai, India

What did you want to be when you grew up? When I was growing up I wanted to be a fighter pilot or mechanical engineer. However, I was dissuaded from becoming a fighter pilot and instead became a mechanical engineer.

What is your favorite food? I love Thai food.

What do you do outside work? My wife and I love to spend time with our friends on weekends and holidays, work in our yard, and travel.

What advice would you give young engineers? Keeping up with technical magazines related to the field is important. Ask questions of your peers and then develop your own solution to a problem. Our business is generated through contacts, and contacts get developed through anyone or everyone you meet as you go through college and start the working career. Keeping up with contacts helps generate future clients.

What do you wish people knew about your chosen career? The HVAC business requires communicating with clients, contractors and vendors. For a successful project, collaboration is needed between all parties.

In addition to being paid money, how has your career created value in your life? The career helped me shed some of my introverted behavior, helped build structures that I am proud of that will last for lifetime, helped me experience different culture and helped me accept different viewpoints.

Atul and his wife, Jaya, have two children, Neesha and Sonum.
