I-75 Caloosahatchee River Bridge Improvements

To expand the 4,000-ft long Caloosahatchee River Bridge, conventional survey methods were not feasible, as it is heavily traveled, tall and horizontally curved. But despite these and other hindrances, McKim & Creed surveyors were able to use laser scanning, a non-contact, rapid data collection technology, to successfully complete this survey project. In 2 weeks, 100 million data points in 63 scans from both land and water venues were captured. The data were then used to build a virtual reality model of the entire bridge substructure, and then transferred to Microstation™ to get X, Y and Z coordinates.
