Albemarle Road Elevated Water Storage Tank

As residential growth continues in the Midland area just east of Charlotte, N.C., reliable water storage is essential to maintain consistent pressure, meet peak demand, and protect service continuity during emergencies and power outages. To support this need, McKim & Creed provided design-build services for a new one-million-gallon (1MG) elevated water storage tank serving Pulte Homes’ 650-acre Carolina Ridge development in Midland. The 140-foot-tall, 70-foot-diameter tank will strengthen water distribution for more than 1,100 future homes and, upon completion, will be owned and operated by the City of Concord’s Water Resources Department.

As the design-build provider, McKim & Creed delivered full project execution from planning through construction. Services included engineering design, land surveying, permitting support, construction staking, construction coordination, and full construction administration—ensuring alignment across scope, schedule, budget, and quality. McKim & Creed’s integrated design-build approach enabled close collaboration between design and construction teams, supports early decision-making, and helps mitigate risk throughout delivery.

Early in the project, the team identified opportunities to accelerate initial site activities by coordinating with the client and civil contractor to establish access and advance geotechnical work ahead of schedule, saving nearly two months at the front end of the project. Despite early permitting delays and significant rainfall throughout 2025, proactive coordination and efficient sequencing have kept the project ahead of schedule.
