These pre-construction beach profile surveys along 11 miles of beach had to be completed during winter months when sea turtle eggs and populations were no longer on the beach.
The team surveyed from the primary dune to negative 8 feet mean sea level. Hydrographic surveyors obtained survey measurements from several thousand feet offshore to approximately negative 4 feet mean sea level. Data was incorporated into a laptop using Hypack software.
Surveyors wore Maverick Survival Suits designed for freezing temperatures to stay safe during the extreme weather conditions, which included 19°F air temperatures and 35-42°F water temperatures.
