McKim & Creed used laser scanning techniques to successfully survey this bridge replacement project, as the presence of a vertically blind curve made conventional methods extremely dangerous. Approximately 8,300 LF of pavement were scanned at a precision necessary to produce .05-ft contour intervals. Edge of pavement, curb lines and other features were extracted from the scan data and put into breakline format. Scan control points (bridge spikes) were set and controlled from the NCDOT baseline.
