McKim & Creed completed three mobile laser scanning projects comprising approximately 33 miles of railway line for NCDOT. In order to execute the project, a mobile scanning device was installed on a rail truck. The truck traveled the project area in both directions to ensure full scanning coverage. Top-of-rail breaklines were extracted from the collected image data and, in addition to footage of the data collection process, were delivered to the client. As work impinged on some high traffic areas, traffic control and safety measures, such as cones and flaggers, were used as necessary.
