Behavioral Health Patient Holding Area Renovation

Atrium Health Cabarrus recently completed a renovation of its 3,700-square-foot behavioral health holding area, aiming to provide a safe and professional environment for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. McKim & Creed played a pivotal role in this transformation by delivering comprehensive mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEP/FP) engineering services. The upgraded facility now accommodates 8-10 Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI)-compliant behavioral health holding patient rooms, along with all necessary support spaces.

The project involved the meticulous design and implementation of HVAC systems, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical systems. The electrical upgrades included normal power, emergency egress lighting, building lighting, and the installation of conduit and wiring for security, access systems, CCTV, and data/telecom systems. McKim & Creed also provided essential bidding support, construction support, and assistance with Division of Health Service Regulation (DHSR) reviews and inspections to ensure adherence to all relevant standards and regulations.

This renovation significantly enhances the functionality and safety of the behavioral health unit, offering a secure and supportive environment for both patients and staff.
