McKim & Creed supplied NRG Energy Services and the Homer City Generating Station with engineering services to evaluate alternatives for compliance with new NPDES requirements for discharges from the station’s coal pile desilting pond system. The station maintains three desilting pond systems that manage contact stormwater from the coal storage and coal pile areas.
McKim & Creed provided an alternatives analysis report that compared various strategies to improve stormwater management to achieve compliance with water quality criteria outlined in the new permit. Additional support was furnished for conceptual engineering of improvements to the station’s stormwater conveyance and treatment systems that proved most favorable during the alternatives analysis effort.
