Fairview Campus is a 272-acre, large-scale K–12 educational campus serving the Appoquinimink School District in Townsend, Delaware. As the state’s first public Early Childhood through Grade 12 campus, Fairview is recognized as a model for school development and was designed to accommodate up to 4,000 students.
Developed in two phases, the campus opened in 2012 with the Spring Meadow Early Childhood Center and Old State Elementary School, followed by the 2020 opening of the interconnected Odessa High School and Cantwell’s Bridge Middle School. Shared academic, performing arts, and athletic facilities support grades K–12 and maximize operational efficiency across the campus.
McKim & Creed (formerly Landmark Science & Engineering) provided comprehensive site planning, civil and water resources engineering, floodplain analysis and FEMA map revisions, stormwater management design, utilities and roadway design, environmental permitting, and construction-phase services. Work was completed within a complex, multi-phase environment coordinated with master planning and concurrent building construction.
The campus features a 10-field athletic complex with synthetic turf fields, an eight-lane track, tennis courts, a 3,000-seat stadium, and a 12,000-square-foot fieldhouse. Environmental services included wetland delineation, rare and endangered species studies, bog turtle investigations, and forest stand delineation.
A unified construction approach significantly reduced infrastructure and long-term maintenance costs by consolidating stormwater facilities, utilities, roadways, parking, and site access. This innovative campus layout generated millions of dollars in capital savings while improving operational efficiency and sustainability.
