McKim & Creed was tasked with performing a utility survey for an offshore borrow area. The goal was to locate two known utility lines offshore of Long Beach so the dredging for the sand fill project could be configured to avoid impacting those lines. The team utilized a Geometrics G-882 cesium-vapor magnetometer, a POS-MV wavemaster and Hypack 2016a Navigation software to ensure no utility cables fell within the parameters of the potential dredge area.
The final product consisted of a MicroStation V8i drawing showing all offshore utilities following the most current NY District CADD Standards, as well as an ASCII file in XYZ format. In addition, the field work met all criteria for hydrographic surveying as defined by USACE manual EM1110-2-1003.
