McKim & Creed used multibeam / side scan survey to locate underwater cables in Lake Champlain. The purpose of the survey was to provide an as-built for power lines laid in the 1950s. The cables are housed in 8- to 10-inch diameter pipe lines. NOAA charts indicated depths in the project area of up to 200 feet. Surveyors used a high resolution Reson 8125 SeaBat to acquire the multibeam and side scan data that enabled them to locate the cables. Careful calibration was required for the high-resolution surveys.
