The Pittsburgh Glass Center (PGC) is a nonprofit public access education center and art gallery dedicated to the art of hot glass designs. McKim & Creed provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and structural engineering services for a significant expansion and renovation project for the Center. The project involved an 11,000-square-foot addition to the existing facility to accommodate more studio space and updates to 10,000 square feet of the existing building to enhance its functionality for retail space, storage, and event space.
McKim & Creed’s services for this project include HVAC design to ensure optimal climate control and ventilation for both the new and existing spaces, comprehensive plumbing services and fire safety measures to align with the latest safety standards, efficient and effective power distribution and lighting solutions to meet the needs of various activities within the Center, and structural analysis and recommendations to assess and improve the structural integrity of the building to support the new and existing facilities.
Collaboration has been a critical aspect of this project. McKim & Creed worked closely with the architect and the owner to ensure that the equipment and program requirements were well-coordinated. This collaboration has been crucial in managing costs and keeping the project within budget.
