In September 2016, McKim & Creed was called into action by the Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA) to assist with force main emergency repair. The 30-inch ductile iron force main at Rogerson Drive had failed at a high point in the pipeline’s route due to corrosion.
Nearly three years later— on April 12, 2019—OWASA alerted our team of another break of the same force main, albeit at a different location along the pipeline. Once again, corrosion caused more than 600 linear feet of force main to fail.
Our replacement design created a new local high point in the force main, provided valving for future bypass and allowed for future extension in alternative areas.
Service by the Rogerson Drive pump station was maintained for the full duration of the force main repair. Six months after the second break, the new replacement force main was placed into active service.
“You all are the A team as far as I am concerned.”
– Simon Lobdell, Utilities Engineer, OWASA
