Carnegie Mellon University acquired the Fifth Neville Student Apartment Building located at 4705 Fifth Avenue, a 70-year-old structure that needed mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection system upgrades. The facility also required code compliant, cosmetic and ADA renovations. Improvements and modernizations included adding a 4-pipe heating and cooling system and sizing the boiler plant for both the Fifth Neville building and the future Fifth Clyde residence building. The electrical and LED lighting systems were upgraded, all plumbing risers were replaced and each apartment bathroom received a complete renovation. In addition, McKim & Creed added access control to all apartment units as well as a building camera system.
