UAS Landfill Study

Landfill engineer Garrett & Morris and McKim & Creed teamed to explore the efficacy of employing UAS technology for landfill surveys. The site was approximately 60 acres and consisted mostly of cleared, bare earth. A north-south flight pattern was chosen with a forward overlap of 78% and a side overlap of 60%. The mission was flown at 400 ft. above ground level (AGL), giving a ground sampling distance (GSD) of approximately 3.5 cm. Equipment included a 3D Robotics Solo (N993DR) equipped with a Sony QX1 camera and 16-mm prime lens.
