United Engineering Group, prior to its acquisition by McKim & Creed, helped create a state-of-the-art retreat space for relaxation and meditation at the Duke Cancer Center. Sixteen different themes can be selected at a control panel that features specialized lighting and sound systems. Design highlights included detailed airflow calculations for quiet, uniform air distribution using linear bar grilles recessed into alcoves spaced around the dome. Designers blended infrastructure elements, including life safety, to maintain the effects of the environment while creating a highly functional space.
