McKim & Creed provided electrical and mechanical engineering services for the UNC Charlotte Jerry Richardson Stadium Complex. The facility features 15,000 seats (expandable to 40,000 seats) and an approximately 58,000-square foot building consisting of athletic offices, meeting spaces, weight and training rooms, locker rooms, offices, restrooms, concessions, ticket office, press box, skyboxes and storage to house an intercollegiate football team.
The complex included a separate team building with visitor locker room, toilets, and storage; a stadium field; two practice fields; and an approximately 1,200 SF storage building. Some of the important design elements were simplicity of design with an emphasis on economic and timely construction; effective and efficient HVAC, electrical, and communication systems; applying building design standards to become a LEED certified building; and the ability to add future buildings at end zones and space for additional seating.
