Installing wet electrostatic precipitators on calciners at a phosphate mine helped cut emissions to levels well below regulatory standards.
Initially, the WESPs were installed on two calciners and proved so successful that Aurora Phosphate voluntarily installed units on its remaining four calciners. Overall, particulate emissions were reduced by 86 percent. At the time this award-winning project was completed, it represented one the first uses of WESP technology in the phosphate industry.
