Myakkahatchee Creek Water Treatment Plant Reverse Osmosis Reliability Project

North Port’s Myakkahatchee Creek Water Treatment Plant (WTP) utilized a conventional surface water coagulation-sedimentation-filtration process. During the dry season when source water supplies have elevated levels of sulfate and total dissolved solids, this process was unable to provide potable water that met secondary regulatory requirements. The Reliability Project features six new intermediate aquifer wells that produce significant quantities of water with minimal localized draw down impacts. Water from a new 1.5-mgd reverse osmosis treatment facility is treated and blended with treated water from the existing Myakkatachee Creek WTP. The water is blended in appropriate ratios necessary to meet regulatory requirements for total dissolved solids and sulfates.
